LUKE 23:29-31

Verses 29-31 “29 For, behold, the days are coming, in the which they shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the paps which never gave suck.
30 Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us.
31 For if they do these things in a green tree, what shall be done in the dry?”
Jesus says that things are only going to get worse for believers in this world.  If the world could be so evil while Jesus was present (green tree), what shall the world be like when God’s Son is gone and forgotten (dry tree)?  But we are not dispirited because there is deliverance in the Lord, deliverance and victory.

MATTHEW 5:1-12

Verses 1-12 “1And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:
2And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
3Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
5Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
6Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
7Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
8Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
9Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
10Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
12Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.”

The Beatitudes tell us how to be happy in life. They apply to believers in every dispensation of time. To know that we are poor spiritually, to mourn over sin and repent, to be humble before God, to treat other people mercifully and right, to be pure in heart, to help others to make peace with God, and to stand for all of these things and for God even when persecuted, these are the way to happiness.
